Our Pet List

Just the DOGS! Just the CATS!

Featured Dog is DEVO

Devo is a 2 year old Lab/ Pit Bull Mix. He is a neutered male, up to date on all his vaccinations and even microchipped! He was found by a nice gentleman who kept him for 2 months while trying to find him a home before he surrendered him to SAVE. Devo is a very energetic, smart and playful boy. He is also very loving and affectionate. The staff has been working on Devo’s manners while here at the shelter. They have even taught him to sit and wait for the door to be opened before going through it. Devo does get excited very easily, and when he does he tends to be a little ‘mouthy’. For this reason, Devo needs a home with a dog experienced owner, someone who will take on the alpha role in the relationship and not let Devo be the boss. His owner should be able to handle a strong dog, as Devo can pull hard. For these reasons we would like to place Devo in a home without small children. The home should be an active one though, because Devo still has a lot of ‘puppy’ energy. He is ok with some dogs and a proper introduction with the right dog should go well. Please come by the shelter to meet Devo. ** Thanks to an anonymous donor, Devo's adopter will have a full year of paid, in home training with Bark Busters!. **

Featured Cat is JINX

GOOD NEWS!! JINX HAS BEEN ADOPTED !! Jinx is a very special boy who currently resides at SAVE. Jinx, 4 is an affectionate cat who loves human attention and who wants nothing more than to have a lap to sit on and a hand to stroke his fur. He is a special needs kitties because he is FIV +. He carries the virus but does not have AIDS. Because of the myths surrounding his disease, finding a family for them is somewhat of a challenge. He would do best in a home without any other cats (unless they are FIV + also). This disease is not transmittable to humans or dogs, he does not need special food and is not on any medications. Can you find it in your heart to make this special boy a part of your life and give him that forever home that he deserves? If you do, we promise you will be rewarded with nothing but love from this gentle kitty.

SAVE'S SPONSOR-A-PET PROGRAM

We at SAVE are anticipating opportunities to foster mother cats and their young kittens. If you would like to participate in this foster program, or would like further information, please call SAVE at (609) 921-6122 or send an e-mail message to save@SaveHomelessAnimals.org

When the one-year anniversary of beloved dog MICRO'S death neared, John and Pat Butcher of Princeton looked for a fitting tribute. They found it at SAVE, with the SPONSOR-A-PET PROGRAM. Not yet ready to adopt a new dog, but wanting instead to memorialize "the best dog in the whole world," the Butchers asked to sponsor a "small, adorable, cuddly dog" sheltered at SAVE. "We ended up sponsoring a big dog," laughed Pat, "but we don't mind."

Through SPONSOR-A-PET, people can choose a dog or cat in residence at SAVE, and pay $60 for six months or $120 for a year to cover the animal's food and medical expenses. Donors receive a color photograph of the pet they sponsor, and are permitted to later adopt it, if they choose. If someone else adopts their pet before the sponsorship ends, the sponsors can choose a new one. For more information please call the shelter at 609-921-6122, ext. 201.

SAVE is proud to announce it's new expanded visitation hours. We will be open Tuesday though Saturday from 12pm until 6pm, and 12-4 on Sundays

We will be closed on Mondays, but we certainly hope these new hours will make it more convenient to visit SAVE if you are seeking a new furry friend.

Who We Are

SAVE - A Friend to Homeless Animals, is Princeton's Animal Shelter. We are a haven for lost puppies, stray kittens, and dogs and cats whose owners can no longer care for them. We give them a home until they can be adopted. SAVE is a private, non-profit, organization and a holding facility for all cats and dogs brought in through Animal Control officers in Princeton Borough and Princeton Township. We have been in existence since 1941 and are almost entirely supported by contributions.

Each animal is examined by our veterinarian and given the appropriate treatment and vaccinations. All animals available from SAVE are spayed or neutered. All Save's cats have been FIV and Feline Leukemia tested, and all dogs have been heartworm tested. All SAVE's adoptees have been vaccinated and dewormed as well. We give comfort to the frightened newcomers and socialize the abused or neglected cats and dogs that come to SAVE. Each animal is given its own space, which is cleaned daily. We actively seek adopters for our homeless friends and screen families and individuals to ensure a suitable match is made.

Adopting a Friend

Anyone interested in adopting a pet from SAVE should visit during visitation hours (12-6 Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday 12-4), fill out an application and visit the available animals.
